Reflection on your ‘Documentary in a Day’

Pre-Production

For this mini-documentary, we first set up five different questions about our topic “HOME’. These questions are open questions, this means that people can not only answer “yes” or “no”. Such Settings let us have more initiative, during the interview, we can according to the different answers to different changes, so it makes our mini documentary more interesting.

Then we choose the place to interview, we all agree with that the small square at the front of the state library is a good choice. Because there are lots of people staying there to reading or relaxing, they may have more time to take our interview. And we also decided to take two different ways, one is let the interview in the scene, another one is just have the interviewee.

Production

Through this screenshot we can find some problems in the process of production. The first is white balance, obviously in this screenshot Eugene’s face was overexposed, I don’t know why, becasue we have already adjust the white balance first, but the colour still looks different in camera and computer. And also the head space are too much. There are lots of people in front of the state library, but also it is noisy.

During the interview, we found that our questions still are not good, all of our questions are too long and make people think too much, so we adjust them. We make the first two questions are very easy, and then it becaming more and more difficult.

Post-production

The first thing is organised all of the footage (I learnt it form LENNY), it can make me work easier.

Sound is still a big problem for me, it is hard to make the sound great. For me, I want to find a balance between the background music and the interview, the level of the sound are hard to control. And because of our interview are not finish in one day, so the colour of our scene are different, so I need to fix it during the post-production.
